I felt the need to pull more than one card today…and from different decks. Not sure why, but hey, who the hell am I to question the nudges? So, let’s see what we’ve got going for us in the next week, shall we?
Divination Method: The Secret Language of Animals Oracle Cards & The Goddess Guidance Oracle
Card(s) Drawn: Koala & Abundantia
Key Word(s): (Koala) Calm, Perspective, Imagination, Ease (Abundantia) Prosperity
Affirmation (Animal Oracle): “I breathe deep with a warm smile and relax into the arms of the great Tree of Life. I feel peace, calm, and new possibility. I bring this wherever I go.”
Basic Message (Goddess Oracle): “The universe is pouring its abundance out to you. Be open to receiving.”
My Interpretation: First, let me just say that I’m liking these two cards together. It’s a nice vibe. It seems right to me that, although many will be having all sorts of raucous and crazy fun as they celebrate Halloween tomorrow (who am I kidding, most are already celebrating it, LOL), most of my readers will be celebrating Samhain. This involves a bit more reverence than revelry. As we honor our Ancestors, and/or commune with Spirit(s); we also welcome in a New Year, and all the possibilities that come with it, as the wheel turns once more to begin a new cycle.
Koala is kind of the ultimate example for the Witch. His Calm, Ease, and Perspective are the embodiment of “Soft of eye and light of touch, speak ye little, listen much” of the Wiccan Rede. He doesn’t push his ways on others, he leads and teaches by example. By doing so, he radiates these qualities, and becomes a catalyst to stirring the very same in those he comes in contact with.
His appearance here means the coming week should be one of calm, peaceful, reflection…be still and be open to the opportunities this new year will offer to us.
Now let’s throw Abundantia into this mix, and we see that these opportunities shall include abundance. I do not see this as financial abundance (sorry peeps!)…but more Energetic & Spiritual. Consider her as a bit of a booster for Koala’s energy in this week’s draw. Which, to me, means those of us who shall be celebrating Samhain in a Magickal sense, are in for some massive and powerful experiences. Do not be frightened or overcome by the energy and/or the encounters you may have. Be calm, retain your perspective, and receive the Abundant Gifts that are to be bestowed upon you.
As Samhain nears, there are a few themes that tend to recur to us witch type folks again and again: Death, Darkness, & the Unknown. Add the non-witchy folks and we add Fear to this list, as we’re then talking about Halloween, and peeps like to be scared silly for some reason (Yes, I know, a whole heap of witch-type folks are into the Scream Scene too).
Actually, I guess they all get lumped together on a regular basis though, don’t they? When it comes to Death, Darkness, & the Unknown, many of us tend to be fearful. Yet the reason for fearing the Dark and Death IS the Unknown. I was reminded of this as I started a little Harry Potter marathon, and started mulling over all of Dumbledore’s snippets of Wisdom.
Looking back on my own life so far, I can tell you that fear of the Unknown was always huge for me. This included Death. I would have ginormous panic attacks when I was supposed to embark on something new. Even when the something new was something that I had decided to try on my own.
Sometimes though, there was one thing that could manage to get me past the fear…and that was curiosity. If my desire to know the answer to something, or to know what this mystery thing does, or what it would feel like to do “X”, then I could somewhat easily manage to take a deep breath and just get to it. So, why is it that curiosity can so readily dispatch fear? Well, Author Alan Watts kinda nailed it when he said “By replacing fear of the unknown with curiosity we open ourselves up to an infinite stream of possibility.”
The possibilities are truly what does the trick! If you can think of, and focus on, even one awesomely terrific possibility…then why shouldn’t you go forth and brave the Unknown? Granted, you may want to be prepared for the journey…such as having a flashlight handy if you plan on exploring in the dark…a little protection for a romantic encounter…or other protective measures should you decide to commune with those residing across the veil, but journey you should. 🙂
“Curiosity will conquer fear even more than bravery will.”
These days I prefer to focus on the possibilities. The fear still whispers in my head every now and then, but I can usually shut it up pretty quick once I think of the good that could come from venturing into the Unknown…embracing the Darkness…and demystifying Death (it is merely another form of Life, after all).
So, if someone asks you “Are you afraid of the dark?”, hopefully you’ll be feeling confident enough to channel your inner Lauren Cooper and respond as such – just because it’s so much more fun that way!
If I lost any of you along the way…or drifted away from my point, please forgive me. we had a kick-ass Blood Moon ritual last night, and I’ve been in a funky head space ever since. It’s a good head space, just a bit loopy and funky. lol 😉
Divination Method: The Goddess Guidance Oracle
Card(s) Drawn: Rhiannon
Key Word(s): Sorceress
Basic Message: “You are a magical person who can manifest your clear intentions into reality.”
My Interpretation: Rhiannon is so fitting for the week leading up to Samhain! She is a Welsh Goddess and that is mainly known for lovingly transporting the souls of the dead to the Otherworld. The lovely part of this, is that she stays with them to help them adjust to the ethereal portion of their life. She is a shape-shifter that can be called on to aid in spirit communication, help with transitions, artistic/creative endeavors, and to bring things to manifest.
So what does this mean for this week? For some it means that it’s time for your dreams to come true…for others, time to move your arse and MAKE your dreams come true. It is also a time of transition, and dealing with the aftermath of recent ones. Are you noticing a little “two sides of the same coin” thing happening here? Well, that’s because this is the basic energy of this time of year. With the veil between worlds thinning, the lines between opposites are being blurred (life/death)…but also brought into focus (messages linking past/present, etc.).
So this week, tap into your Inner Sorceress (you too, fellas! 😉 ) and commune with the energy of Rhiannon. Here’s a little help from Stevie Nicks to get you into your Rhiannon State of Mind:
Some of you may be confused by the title of this post, but as most of you awesome readers are pagans, I think you’ll get what I mean by this.
I like to look at endings as beginnings that’ve gotten a bad rap. Think about it. A birth is the beginning of life, but also the end of a pregnancy. Ends are simply transitions and/or transformations. We simply move on to another state of being. This holds true whether we are talking a change in careers, a change in marital status, or a change from corporeal life to ethereal life.
That’s something to keep in mind this time of year. Not only are we currently in the midst of a seasonal transition…but as Samhain approaches it becomes much easier to catch a glimpse at the ethereal side of life as the veil between this world and the next becomes quite thin.
You may also want to mull the concept over if you’re going through something that traditionally feels like an end. Examine the situation and find the positives. What new thing has (or could) come out of this “ending”? What opportunities await you as you embark on this new leg of your life’s journey?
The Pixie commands thee to find that silver lining!! lol
Anyway, here’s a few quotes to drive home what I’m talking about…the first one is the one that sparked this little Ramble Train. It’s a little something that was stated by the Master of Horror, and my favorite author, Stephen King! 😀
“Life is like a wheel. Sooner or later,
it always come around to where you started again.”
“Our life is an apprenticeship to the truth that around every circle another can be drawn; that there is no end in nature, but every end is a beginning, and under every deep a lower deep opens.”
Ralph Waldo Emerson
“The world is round and the place which may seem like the end
may also be the beginning.”
Ivy Baker Priest
This last one, including the photo, is mine. 😉
Divination Method: The Secret Language of Animals Oracle Cards
Card(s) Drawn: Dolphin
Key Word(s): Joy, Light, Flow, Compassion
Affirmation: “I follow my bliss, knowing I am worthy to experience joy. Riding the waves of inspiration within me, I bring great joy and light into the world.”
My Interpretation: Firstly, let me say: OMG! DOLPHIN!!!!! OK, now that I’ve got that out of my system, let me say that this coming week has the potential to be pretty awesome…
Dolphins are playful, compassionate, full of exuberance, and just goes with the flow. It’s difficult to be down in the dumps when watching dolphins play in the water, they even look like they’re smiling. They go with the flow, but they do not go it alone. They are social creatures with a very strong sense of community. We know they are compassionate creatures, as there are countless tales of dolphins coming to the aid of humans in distress. While they are gentle and friendly, don’t let that smiling face fool ya, they will also mess you (or a shark) up if need be.
What I find interesting about this draw, is something many usually forget about dolphins. They essentially exist between worlds. They evolved from land mammals and developed the necessary physiology to allow them to survive & thrive in the depths of the sea; while continuing to breathe air into lungs and give birth to fully developed offspring. Think of it this way…the surface of the water is the “veil between worlds” and it is something they cross with ease. It is a part of their nature and adds to the depth of their character. Think about the depths of the sea as the Otherworld. Dolphins could survive as surface dwellers, yet they occasionally spend up to 20 minutes at a time below the surface.
Why do I find this interesting? Well, as we approach Samhain, the veil between the worlds is thinning, making it easier to communicate with those on the other side. Since Dolphins move between their 2 worlds with such ease…this could be a good week to start delving into the Spirit Side of Life, and begin working with your Ancestors in preparation for Samhain.
So, this is what I suggest you do this week:
~ Go with the flow
~ Connect with family (blood or chosen), friends, and that which brings you joy
~ Show compassion to others…but don’t forget to be compassionate with yourself as well
~ Honor your Ancestors
I shall leave you with this video I took while whale watching in California. It’s a pod of dolphins that came to swim along side the boat for a bit. It gets a bit manic in spots, and I recommend a low volume (there’s lots of wind noise, and I may have been a wee bit excited to be so close to one of my Totem Animals). Hopefully it’s enough to kick-start your joy. 🙂
Life has gotten in the way again, and for that I apologize, but I did pull a card on Friday, and I will now clue you in to what the vibe is for this week (hey, better late than never, right??).
Divination Method: The Goddess Guidance Oracle
Card(s) Drawn: Hathor
Key Word(s): Receptivity
Basic Message: “Allow yourself to receive. This will increase your intuition, energy, and ability to give to others.”
My Interpretation: We give, give, give, and give some more…yet forget that sometimes we also need to get a little something for ourselves. Once again…this week is about finding a balance. It’s perfectly natural, and OK, to want to help and nurture others. In fact, it’s pretty awesome to do so…but sometimes YOU’RE the one that needs to be taken care of, and it would be in your best interest to be open to it…or perhaps even request it.
Being receptive to receiving energy – whether in the form of help, advice, nurturing, or straight up energy – helps us to be open to receiving other things as well. When we are receptive, we are more likely to hear the messages that our Spirit Guides, Deities, and even our Ancestors have to share with us.
This is the time to listen. Be still, and open those ears! Let go of any guilt you may be feeling about the help and support you need, it only weighs you down. Receiving help, guidance and nurturing with an open heart that is not weighed down with guilt allows you to acknowledge it as the wonderful gift that it is.
This week’s vibe is one of healing, growth, and learning so, during this time, ask for the help you need.
Hathor also indicates that the time is ripe for experiencing a boost in psychic abilities… so keep listening for what is coming through the ever-thinning veil as we get one week closer to Samhain.
Remember to breathe…remember to not close yourself off…remember to listen…
I’m taking a different approach to this week’s post, as it’s more of a photo-essay. I created it using photobucket’s “stories” feature, which still seems to have a few bugs in it, but it was still fun to put together.
Anyway, the story takes place in Salem, Massachusetts at Samhain of 2008. I was on vacation with my Mom, and we ran into quite a few folks that weren’t to happy to have a bunch of Witches taking over the town to celebrate our Sacred Holiday. Have a gander, and let my photos tell the tale of how I dealt with it all.
While the protesters that were strewn throughout Salem had me quite annoyed at the beginning, I chose not to let their over-zealousness about what they thought the state of my soul was get me down. I cannot control what they believe, nor do I wish to. I do wish they’d realize that their signs, flyers, and shouts of hell-fire aren’t really doing anything to further their agenda, but all I can do is act in a manner befitting the Divine Spirit that lies within me
A little addition: Since I originally drafted this post on Tuesday, Fred Phelps (former leader and founder of the Westboro Baptist Church famous for picketing the funerals of Gays) has passed away. Since (and even a few days before) his death, I have seen many people urging others to picket Mr. Phelps’ funeral. Personally, I do not see what that would accomplish, other than perpetuating all the nastiness and bile that the man himself used to prescribe to. Regardless of what we feel about how he led his life, anyone in attendance of his funeral is entitled to say goodbye in peace. Whether or not those individuals would afford any of us the same courtesy is irrelevant. I see nothing productive coming from lowering our standards of behavior in retaliation. That is only my opinion, of course…you’re certainly entitled to your own.
