Good evening everyone! Hopefully you all had a wonderful Samhain, I know I did. It was a little damp here…but all festivities went on, and much Magick was made! 😀
But, that’s not what today is about, is it? It’s about what little nuggets of wisdom I can find and share with you. So let me tell you what I’ve found for today. I came across a quote from the ever-sassy Reba McEntire, and it absolutely resonated with me.
To succeed in life, you need three things:
a wishbone, a backbone and a funny bone.”
~ Reba McEntire
What makes these three things so important? Well, let’s break them down to see what each represents.
The Wishbone is our Hopes…our Dreams…our Magick!
The Backbone is our Strength…our Fortitude…our Gumption!
The Funny Bone is our Relief Valve…our Amusement…our Joy!
Those are some pretty significant aspects of our lives encompassed in those Three Bones! So, keep dreaming. Stand up for yourself and for what you believe in. Most importantly, remember to not take yourself and life too seriously.
If things are getting you down…take some advice from the Monkees and LAUGH! 😉
I felt the need to pull more than one card today…and from different decks. Not sure why, but hey, who the hell am I to question the nudges? So, let’s see what we’ve got going for us in the next week, shall we?
Divination Method: The Secret Language of Animals Oracle Cards & The Goddess Guidance Oracle
Card(s) Drawn: Koala & Abundantia
Key Word(s): (Koala) Calm, Perspective, Imagination, Ease (Abundantia) Prosperity
Affirmation (Animal Oracle): “I breathe deep with a warm smile and relax into the arms of the great Tree of Life. I feel peace, calm, and new possibility. I bring this wherever I go.”
Basic Message (Goddess Oracle): “The universe is pouring its abundance out to you. Be open to receiving.”
My Interpretation: First, let me just say that I’m liking these two cards together. It’s a nice vibe. It seems right to me that, although many will be having all sorts of raucous and crazy fun as they celebrate Halloween tomorrow (who am I kidding, most are already celebrating it, LOL), most of my readers will be celebrating Samhain. This involves a bit more reverence than revelry. As we honor our Ancestors, and/or commune with Spirit(s); we also welcome in a New Year, and all the possibilities that come with it, as the wheel turns once more to begin a new cycle.
Koala is kind of the ultimate example for the Witch. His Calm, Ease, and Perspective are the embodiment of “Soft of eye and light of touch, speak ye little, listen much” of the Wiccan Rede. He doesn’t push his ways on others, he leads and teaches by example. By doing so, he radiates these qualities, and becomes a catalyst to stirring the very same in those he comes in contact with.
His appearance here means the coming week should be one of calm, peaceful, reflection…be still and be open to the opportunities this new year will offer to us.
Now let’s throw Abundantia into this mix, and we see that these opportunities shall include abundance. I do not see this as financial abundance (sorry peeps!)…but more Energetic & Spiritual. Consider her as a bit of a booster for Koala’s energy in this week’s draw. Which, to me, means those of us who shall be celebrating Samhain in a Magickal sense, are in for some massive and powerful experiences. Do not be frightened or overcome by the energy and/or the encounters you may have. Be calm, retain your perspective, and receive the Abundant Gifts that are to be bestowed upon you.
Divination Method: The Goddess Guidance Oracle
Card(s) Drawn: Rhiannon
Key Word(s): Sorceress
Basic Message: “You are a magical person who can manifest your clear intentions into reality.”
My Interpretation: Rhiannon is so fitting for the week leading up to Samhain! She is a Welsh Goddess and that is mainly known for lovingly transporting the souls of the dead to the Otherworld. The lovely part of this, is that she stays with them to help them adjust to the ethereal portion of their life. She is a shape-shifter that can be called on to aid in spirit communication, help with transitions, artistic/creative endeavors, and to bring things to manifest.
So what does this mean for this week? For some it means that it’s time for your dreams to come true…for others, time to move your arse and MAKE your dreams come true. It is also a time of transition, and dealing with the aftermath of recent ones. Are you noticing a little “two sides of the same coin” thing happening here? Well, that’s because this is the basic energy of this time of year. With the veil between worlds thinning, the lines between opposites are being blurred (life/death)…but also brought into focus (messages linking past/present, etc.).
So this week, tap into your Inner Sorceress (you too, fellas! 😉 ) and commune with the energy of Rhiannon. Here’s a little help from Stevie Nicks to get you into your Rhiannon State of Mind:
The last couple weeks have been kind of hectic for me. I’ve recently taken on a second store for my work as a book/magazine merchandiser, and it is proving to be rather tiring (Sure hoping that I get used to the new activity level soon). Top it off with a whole lot of social commitments (including a Mediumship class I’m taking), days that have been gloomy & rainy, and a whopper of a Mercury Retrograde, and I have been struggling to keep my Zen. LOL
As rough as it’s felt though, I just keep on keepin’ on. It’s really the only way. On a good day, I like to do it with a bit of humor and even a bit of a song. I also occasionally perk myself up by lovingly annoying a friend…Soooo, yeah, you could say that I get through the craptastic days off my life by channeling a little blue Disney fish that we all know and love: DORY! 😀
It helps to sing the song too…seriously! If your day has been particularly long and exhausting, and the world is getting on your last nerve, singing Dory’s silly little song works a special kind of Magick on your soul.
Divination Tool Used: Sacred Circle Tarot
Card Drawn: Knight of Cups
Key Word(s): Movement
My take on this card: This coming week is filled with opportunity. It is not, however filled with patience. It is the time to Seize the Day, Jump at the Chance, Lose Yourself in that special moment, Say Yes to the Dress…you get the idea. The thing you need to keep in mind is, should Opportunity come a-knockin’ you need to decide on the spot. Either snag the chance to do whatever, or risk missing out and having yet another moment to make you want to travel back in time and kick yourself in the arse (Hey, we’ve all got those moments, but why add another one to the pile???)
The image on this card includes a Knight standing in a river…he represents that opportunity that comes around…the river suggests that things shall be moving quickly and that things will have a deep spiritual and emotional impact.
This nifty little card also holds the image of an apple tree and….AN OTTER!! 😀 Both of these images are related to knowledge and wisdom. Apples are known as the “fruit of knowledge” and, in Irish Celtic lore, otters are known as guides and guardians of spiritual knowledge & wisdom.
All in all, it would seem that the recurring theme of my Wednesday Wisdom posts has been preparing us for the coming week. With that in mind, I shall leave you with a message that is on a new pair of socks I purchased while on vacation last week…as it should pretty much be everyone’s mantra next week.
Friday is upon us once more, and that means it’s time for me to see what lies ahead for us in the coming week. For me, this week has been a struggle…lots of minor frustrations, and a lack of “get up and go”. I was frequently taking moments, breathing in the fresh air to re-invigorate myself with the week’s Coffee energy. Truth be told, there was also MUCH imbibing of caffeinated beverages to keep this Pixie’s behind moving.
So, what is it we have to look forward to next week? Let’s find out.
Divination Tool Used: Sacred Circle Tarot
Card Drawn: 8 of Discs, Reversed
Key Word(s): Focus, Perspective
My take on this card: The imagery of this card is 8 discs, 7 of which have been intricately carved. It indicates that there is a project underway…a project that has been taking a great deal of your attention.
The fact that this card was drawn in the reverse indicates that you may be focused a little too much on the details of what you are doing. It’s time to take a step back and take a look at the “Big Picture”. Think of it this way, if the devil (aka: the problem) is in the details, then perhaps enlightenment (aka: the solution) can be found with a change of perspective.
Look at the situation from a different angle. Are you using the right approach? Are you trying to control the situation a little too much? Are you using the proper tools? It might be time to break out of your comfort zone, use an unorthodox method, or just go with the flow and see where things go…rather than trying to force things to go your way.
The 8 of discs reversed also indicates that you may wish to use caution with your finances and try to curb your spending. Income is likely to be coming in in small increments, and saving what you can is the prudent move at this time. I’m not saying you can’t have any fun…just try not to blow all your cash all in one place.
So, get on out there and gain a little perspective! Hopefully, you’ll find that – much like the view of the Earth from space – things look a hell of a lot better…*cue Bette Midler*…from a distance. 😉
You’re probably wondering what the HELL these two men (one of whom is a fictional character) could possibly have to tell you, jointly, that is somehow relevant to anything, let alone your life. Well, I’m gonna tell you!
First, let’s replay a little scene from the NBC sitcom Scrubs and see what Bob Kelso – Chief of Medicine has to share:
Dr. Kelso: You are going to shut your damn yapper and listen for a change, because I got you pegged, sweetheart. You want to take the easy way out with the surgery because you’re scared. You’re scared because if you try and fail, there’s only you to blame. Well, Missy, let me break this down for you, Bobbo-style. Life is scary. Get used to it.
J.D.: [Narration] And then it seemed like Dr. Kelso wasn’t only talking to her.
Dr. Kelso: There are no magical fixes. It’s all up to you. So get up off your keister, get out of here, and go start doin’ the work.
Nell Goldman: What if it’s too hard?
Dr. Christopher Turk: Yeah, what if it’s too hard?
Dr. Kelso: Turkleton, I have no idea why you’re chiming in, but I’ll say this to both of you. Nothing in this world that’s worth having comes easy.
Now let’s take a look at something our 26th President had to say that relates to this:
“Nothing in the world is worth having or worth doing unless it means effort, pain, difficulty… I have never in my life envied a human being who led an easy life. I have envied a great many people who led difficult lives and led them well.” – Theodore Roosevelt
They both boil down to something that popped out of my mouth in the car this evening when talking to a friend of mine who had a bit of a rough day “Nothing worth having is ever easy”.
It’s true. Relationships are difficult. Giving birth to your children is difficult. Work is difficult (that’s why it’s work, lol). Spiritual growth and development is WICKED DIFFICULT. All of these things are encapsulated in this little thing we call: LIFE…and we all know that life is downright f*ing difficult.
The point that I, the fictitious Chief of Medicine at good the ol’ North Hollywood Medical Center, and a former Commander in Chief are trying to make is this:
If you’re skating through your spiritual practice or any other aspect of your life with great ease, then chances are pretty damn good that you are not creating a very fulfilling life for yourself. You need to put in the work, learn the hard lessons, feel ALL THE FEELINGS, suffer losses, and face unpleasant truths about yourself and others. Only by experiencing the hard times can we experience the good with gratitude. Only by accepting, learning from, and learning to deal with – or even love – those aspects of ourselves that we once found frightening, freakish, controversial, etc. can we become more at peace and loving with ourselves, and are then able to place our True Selves in service of the Divine – resulting in a much more intimate and fulfilling spiritual relationship.
So what are you waiting for? It’s time to get to work. 😉
Healing has been associated with Magickal Practitioners throughout the history of the world. From Ancient Egyptians & Chinese, to European Cunning-Folk & Wise Women, to Native American Medicine Men & Women, to Modern Day Pagans of a multitude of paths (Along with a whole mess of others, too numerous to list!).
Most of these people had/have a vast knowledge of herbs and tend to also have an understanding of human physiology. However, herbs are not the only manner in which healing can be administered, not by a long shot!
Hold it! <Enter squealing breaks sound here>
So, originally I was meaning to post on the various types of healing modalities with brief explanations for each. It felt like a struggle though, and my mind kept fixating on methods that did not use anything but the practitioner, maybe a little music & mood lighting, and some form of energy that is transferred from the practitioner to the client.
While I am a huge fan of healing by way of herbs, crystals, acupuncture, reflexology, etc.; I am most fascinated by, and most often utilize Energy Healing.
So what is Energy Healing? Well, regardless of what form you use, it is basically the channeling of healing energy from the practitioner to the person seeking help. This can be done with hands-on, hands-off, or at a distance. It’s something I believe we are all capable of tapping into, and I’ve always seemed to have quite the aptitude for it myself.
Below are a few types that I am familiar with, and have done myself…I’m sure there are MANY more methods practiced around the world, but this is what the Pixie’s packing in her Healing Med Kit: 😉
Basic Energy Healing: This is a method that needs no special training, and while it may be simple, it is by no means “less than” other modalities. The level of success has more to do with the practitioner than the method itself. I don’t know how others do this, but I’m willing to assume it’s at least similar to the way I do it. When healing energy is requested, I place both feet on the floor and use visualization & intent to summon energy from the Earth. I feel the energy being drawn in through the soles of my feet and move up through my body. If the person in need is with me, I either place my hands on the ailing area or above it (some peeps just don’t wanna be touched…and the area just may be of a, shall we say, sensitive nature). I then direct the energy to and out of my hands and to the person. I have also done this at a distance, I simply face the direction in which the client is located and focus on streaming the energy to them. When I’m done, I have to push that energy back out through my feet and into the Earth…or else I’m all sorts of buzzed up on the excess.
The art of healing comes from nature, not from the physician. Therefore the physician must start from nature, with an open mind.” ~Paracelsus
Reiki: This is the ancient art of Hand-On healing re-discovered by Dr. Mikao Usiu in the mid 1800s after 21 days of intense meditation, fasting and prayer. After he received the information and symbols during his vision he was able to utilize it for healing himself and others. He called the energy used in this healing technique “Reiki” which means “Universal Life Force Energy”.
Reiki works by seeking out the root cause of the ailment, thereby treating its source as well as any symptoms.
Practitioners gain the ability to utilize this Life Force Energy by way of training with and receiving attunements from a Reiki Master (There are 3 levels: Reiki I, Reiki II, and Reiki Master). Once this has occurred, healing is passed on by the practitioner placing their hands in a variety of positions on or slightly above the clients body (Actual touch is not necessary for the energy to be transferred as Reiki energy is smart energy and it will find its way to the area). If someone is either a Reiki II practitioner or a Master they are also trained to do Distant Reiki if the client is unable to be physically present for the session.
Nothing is so healing as the human touch.” ~Bobby Fischer
Aura Cleansing (The Pixie Method): The aura is the electromagnetic field comprised of layers containing physical, mental, emotional, & spiritual energies that surrounds our body and extends out roughly 4-5 feet. This technique just sort of popped into my head the first time I attempted to cleanse someone’s aura during a coven exercise, and I had much success. The client sits in a chair, closes their eyes, and takes a few deep breathes. Take a moment to hold your hands out and find the ‘edges’ of their aura. Scan the aura with your hands (a similar technique is used in Reiki sessions). Once you’ve done that, focus healing energy into any areas you feel may be problematic. THEN comes the fun part! Place your hands at the boundaries of their aura again, and draw any negative energy to the surface and pluck it out. How do you do this? Visualization! Focus your intent on drawing the negativity out with your hands, rather than sending healing through…you’re basically just reversing the process. Once you see the black/gray/brown bits float to the edge, pluck them out and pinch them into little specks of dust to be returned to the Universe for recycling. Do one more pass over the client to make sure you’ve got all the big bits, then finish up by combing their aura up and out with your fingers (Just to get out all the tiny crumbs and make it all pretty again).
Elemental Energy Healing (The Pixie Method): This is very similar to Basic Energy Healing as I call on and direct the energies in a similar manner. This method also popped into my head during a coven healing exercise, and I had very good results. I start out the same as the Basic method: Feet on the floor, client in the room. I then call forth energy from a specific element (again through visualization and intent) Earth energy comes up through the feet and feels cool and dry, when it is projected to the client, it is green. Air energy is absorbed from anywhere on the body, feel it blowing on your skin…it is hot and moist, when projected it is yellow. Fire energy was drawn in through my feet as well, hot and dry, when projected it is red. When calling forth Water energy, I felt it as if rain were falling from the sky (or ceiling, lol) and I absorbed it cold wet energy through my skin, when projected it is blue. I then stream the white light of Spirit to sort of wrap things up. It is quite intense, but works well. Just be sure to ground yourself thoroughly afterward!
In the midst of the sense of tragedy or loss, sometimes laughter is not only healing, it’s a way of experiencing the person that you’ve lost again.” ~Alan Alda
Well, there you have it a nice little taste of the types of Energy Healing that one can do. Like I said, there are TONS more out there, so if none of these are your cup of tea, then look around and see if you find a method that suits you. If for some reason you have trouble finding something you like I have one fail-safe healing method that’s bound to make you feel better…even if it’s just for a little while: LAUGHTER! That shit will fix whatever’s ailing you any damn day of the week!
Laughter is important, not only because it makes us happy, it also has actual health benefits. And that’s because laughter completely engages the body and releases the mind. It connects us to others, and that in itself has a healing effect.” ~Marlo Thomas
I’m taking a different approach to this week’s post, as it’s more of a photo-essay. I created it using photobucket’s “stories” feature, which still seems to have a few bugs in it, but it was still fun to put together.
Anyway, the story takes place in Salem, Massachusetts at Samhain of 2008. I was on vacation with my Mom, and we ran into quite a few folks that weren’t to happy to have a bunch of Witches taking over the town to celebrate our Sacred Holiday. Have a gander, and let my photos tell the tale of how I dealt with it all.
While the protesters that were strewn throughout Salem had me quite annoyed at the beginning, I chose not to let their over-zealousness about what they thought the state of my soul was get me down. I cannot control what they believe, nor do I wish to. I do wish they’d realize that their signs, flyers, and shouts of hell-fire aren’t really doing anything to further their agenda, but all I can do is act in a manner befitting the Divine Spirit that lies within me
A little addition: Since I originally drafted this post on Tuesday, Fred Phelps (former leader and founder of the Westboro Baptist Church famous for picketing the funerals of Gays) has passed away. Since (and even a few days before) his death, I have seen many people urging others to picket Mr. Phelps’ funeral. Personally, I do not see what that would accomplish, other than perpetuating all the nastiness and bile that the man himself used to prescribe to. Regardless of what we feel about how he led his life, anyone in attendance of his funeral is entitled to say goodbye in peace. Whether or not those individuals would afford any of us the same courtesy is irrelevant. I see nothing productive coming from lowering our standards of behavior in retaliation. That is only my opinion, of course…you’re certainly entitled to your own.
