Divination Method: The Goddess Guidance Oracle
Card(s) Drawn: Ostara, Green Tara
Key Word(s): Fertility (Ostara), Start Delegating (Green Tara)
Ostara – “It is the perfect time to start new projects, access new ideas, and give birth to new conditions.”
Green Tara – “Ask others (including me) to help you, instead of trying to do everything yourself.”
This coming week includes both the Winter Solstice (Yule) and Christmas, and it seems to me that this reading falls very much in line with the returning of the Light, and the Birth of the Son/Sun (depending on your spiritual path).
The days will be getting longer again in the coming days, and with the return of the Light, we shall also have the return of IDEAS!
Make note of all the wonderous thoughts and plans that occur to you this week…some may be able to be set into motion now, while others may have to wait their turn. In either case, be sure to nurture them so that they may grow.
Now, here’s where Green Tara comes in. Don’t try to do everything yourself. I know, I know, I’m not the best example when it comes to this bit of advice, but I am getting better. 😉 ANYWAY, ask for the help you need in order to make these new plans and ideas come to fruition…or even help in prioritizing which can be put off, and which should be dealt with with a bit more immediacy. Too many cooks may spoil the pot…but a farmer cannot till his fields on his own. Not very effectively anyway.
So go on, get to idea brewing and plan making…just don’t forget to do it with a little help from your friends.
Happy Friday, everyone! This week I have actually used a spread to forecast our week ahead. It’s not a huge one, but It felt right, so we’re gonna take a little look see and discover what we’ve got in store for us.
Divination Method: The Sacred Circle Tarot
Card(s) Drawn: 3 of Wands, Ace of Discs, Queen of Wands
Key Word(s): Foundation (3 of Wands), Abundance (Ace of Discs), Illumination (Queen of Wands)
My Interpretation: First let me explain the simple set up of this spread. Card 1 represents the Situation, Card 2 represents a Challenge, and Card 3 represents Advice to heed or Action to take regarding the 1st two cards. Now, let’s get to it!
The Situation is found in the 3 of Wands. Things are basically good. The Fires of creation have been kind, and things have panned out as of late. Because of this, there is a sound foundation to build upon for the future. Be sure to note, however, that even the strongest foundations require maintenance – so the hard work is not over. Be aware of things and and don’t be surprised if you’ve got to change things up a bit. The foundations that are best able to survive a shake-up are those that have the ability to be a bit flexible.
The Challenge is the Ace of Discs. It may sound odd that the Abundance card is seen as a challenge, but “Too much of a good thing” really is a thing. 😉 This card suggests that the energy for the coming week, much like Earth is ripe for nurturing creation and bearing the fruit of it. Whether that be the creation of financial opportunities, manifestations of artistic urges, the start of a passionate relationship, etc…. All of these things are awesome things. They are so awesome, in fact, that it can be easy to let ourselves get carried away in their super strong currents and lose sight of what is truly important. We must remain grounded in that foundation and not allow ourselves to be swept away and distracted by all “the shinies”.
Advice is found in the form of the Queen of Wands. To me, she embodies the qualities of the Goddess Brighid. She is Queen of the Hearth…Igniter of Passions…Source of Creativity…Protector of Loved Ones. She appears in this spread to remind us that while all of those things mentioned in the Challenge above are important (which is evident due to the fact that she represents them), it is also important to keep the Fires of the Spirit burning. She is here to lead by example. She shows us that it is possible to “have it all” if we maintain a balance by remaining anchored in our Spirit & Faith. Be true to yourself…and if things get out of hand, take a time out, go within and: Be Good to Yourself. (Yes…it’s time to cue Journey.)
Divination Method: The Goddess Guidance Oracle
Card(s) Drawn: Rhiannon
Key Word(s): Sorceress
Basic Message: “You are a magical person who can manifest your clear intentions into reality.”
My Interpretation: Rhiannon is so fitting for the week leading up to Samhain! She is a Welsh Goddess and that is mainly known for lovingly transporting the souls of the dead to the Otherworld. The lovely part of this, is that she stays with them to help them adjust to the ethereal portion of their life. She is a shape-shifter that can be called on to aid in spirit communication, help with transitions, artistic/creative endeavors, and to bring things to manifest.
So what does this mean for this week? For some it means that it’s time for your dreams to come true…for others, time to move your arse and MAKE your dreams come true. It is also a time of transition, and dealing with the aftermath of recent ones. Are you noticing a little “two sides of the same coin” thing happening here? Well, that’s because this is the basic energy of this time of year. With the veil between worlds thinning, the lines between opposites are being blurred (life/death)…but also brought into focus (messages linking past/present, etc.).
So this week, tap into your Inner Sorceress (you too, fellas! 😉 ) and commune with the energy of Rhiannon. Here’s a little help from Stevie Nicks to get you into your Rhiannon State of Mind:
Life has gotten in the way again, and for that I apologize, but I did pull a card on Friday, and I will now clue you in to what the vibe is for this week (hey, better late than never, right??).
Divination Method: The Goddess Guidance Oracle
Card(s) Drawn: Hathor
Key Word(s): Receptivity
Basic Message: “Allow yourself to receive. This will increase your intuition, energy, and ability to give to others.”
My Interpretation: We give, give, give, and give some more…yet forget that sometimes we also need to get a little something for ourselves. Once again…this week is about finding a balance. It’s perfectly natural, and OK, to want to help and nurture others. In fact, it’s pretty awesome to do so…but sometimes YOU’RE the one that needs to be taken care of, and it would be in your best interest to be open to it…or perhaps even request it.
Being receptive to receiving energy – whether in the form of help, advice, nurturing, or straight up energy – helps us to be open to receiving other things as well. When we are receptive, we are more likely to hear the messages that our Spirit Guides, Deities, and even our Ancestors have to share with us.
This is the time to listen. Be still, and open those ears! Let go of any guilt you may be feeling about the help and support you need, it only weighs you down. Receiving help, guidance and nurturing with an open heart that is not weighed down with guilt allows you to acknowledge it as the wonderful gift that it is.
This week’s vibe is one of healing, growth, and learning so, during this time, ask for the help you need.
Hathor also indicates that the time is ripe for experiencing a boost in psychic abilities… so keep listening for what is coming through the ever-thinning veil as we get one week closer to Samhain.
Remember to breathe…remember to not close yourself off…remember to listen…
This weeks bit of wisdom is something I have placed in my own Book of Shadows. It spoke to me when I found it, and I do my best to live by these words.
I do not know who originally penned it…I’ve seen it in SO many places around the internet, each time without it being attributed to anyone.
While this tells us to embrace and emulate all aspects of the Goddess in our daily lives, it is not just speaking to the ladies among us… It means you too, gents! So, let’s break it down and see what it’s telling us.
Dance Like The Maiden: Channel your Inner Child and remember to PLAY. Sing, Dance, and skip about every now and then (Y’know…like no one is watching…even if they are).
Laugh Like The Mother: Don’t take yourself, or any given situation too seriously. Life is too short to spend it miserable, so keep your sense of humor intact and make the best out of every situation.
Think Like The Crone: Use your head, and try not to act rashly. Also remember that you are a Child of The Goddess and are therefore worthy of the same level of respect as any other person (or creature). While you are entitled to respect, including self-respect, you should also remember to conduct yourself with dignity and grace.
Yes, you CAN be dignified while dancing about and laughing…it’s all about balance people!
Divination Method: The Goddess Guidance Oracle
Card(s) Drawn: Pele
Key Word(s): Divine Passion
Basic Message: “Be honest with yourself: What is your heart’s true desire?”
My Interpretation: Pele is the Hawaiian Goddess of fire, lightning, and volcanoes. Her fiery disposition may frighten some, but her realm is that of Passion & Change. She is known as “She who shapes the sacred land”, and this is evident by the ever-changing landscape of the Hawaiian Islands, which were formed and re-shaped by her abundant lava flows.
So, what does this mean for you? Well, Pele’s vibe is a primal one. She is literally one with the ebbs and flows of nature, and her message is one of burning away the excess…burying the old (as lava does)…and following the flow of your passion to your heart’s desire.
You’re desires have been lying dormant long enough…they have built up, and will no longer stand to be kept bottled up. It is time to connect with your inner most desires and do what is needed to make them a reality. Do not continue to put your needs aside for the sake of others, for the longer you wait, the more violent the eruption will be when your needs can wait no more.
Things to ponder during the coming week: Does your career match your passions? Is there a class you wish to take? Is there a hobby you wish to pursue? Is the rhythm of your life in sync with the inner rhythms of yourself? Where do you want to go? Who do you want to spend time with? What do you want to do? And then there’s this quote from an adorably cheesy Tom Hanks movie, Joe Versus the Volcano:
So, are you awake? Or are you asleep?
Now is the time to figure it out. Figure out what you want, what you need, and make the necessary changes. Change can be scary…and sometimes it can be quite disruptive….but the end results are often beautiful, especially when they occur to because we have aligned the sacred drum-beat of our souls with that of the primal rhythms of the Universe…those kinds of changes ultimately bring us peace…and constant amazement.
I’m going to, once again, apologize for posting this late…but I am on vacation in California for the first time ever, so my day was pretty jam packed full of awesomeness!! Besides, the message for this week is pretty straight forward. LOL
The Card Drawn: Green Tara
Key Word(s): Start Delegating
Basic Message: “Ask others (including me) to help you, instead of trying to do everything yourself.”
My take on this card: This card is pretty self explanatory. Stop trying to do everything yourself. Ask for help if you need it. Delegate to others. You are truly an awesome individual that is capable of rocking the hell out of your to-do list, but you’re not a super hero, no matter HOW good you looked as your fave character at Comic-Con. So, if someone offers to help you, for the sake of all that is holy in your chosen fandom’s universe: LET THEM HELP YOU!
Yes, I know this sounds like I’m totally full of myself and like I’m all sorts of cocky and arrogant about my ability to impart all the answers in life. Trust me, that’s not really it…just hang with me for a bit and see if I can get across what I mean.
Once Upon a Time, there was a little Pixie who always had inklings about things…and who was also pretty damn smart to boot. The trouble is, this Pixie did not trust herself to listen to her inklings…in fact, she often would run swiftly in the exact opposite direction, often resulting in a whole heap-o-misery.
She had (and still has) an amazing friend who always told her she should “trust her gut”, because her instincts were good, and perhaps things would start to go her way if she would only go where her gut was trying to lead her. MANY years, and MANY mistakes later, the Pixie figured mayyyyyybe it was time to try this whole following of the gut thing…I mean, it couldn’t POSSIBLY make things any worse than they were…right???
So, she would follow her gut…at least more often than not…and things started to go a bit more smoothly. Little by little the gut was listened to more and more. Then the Pixie became involved with a coven and began to work through all of her issues with insecurities, and actually began sharing little tidbits and insights with others….and ya know what? She was pretty freaking insightful! She started out a little tentatively with her advice…but, she eventually became aware of when it was truly a message that was to be relayed due to her abilities as an Empath and/or as a conduit for a message from the Divine.
This very thinly veiled story is, of course, autobiographical and chronicles my journey to trusting myself, and the information that lies within…whether that information has been acquired through academic study, life experience, Empathic ability, connection with Spirits/Ancestors, or Divine Intervention – the fact of the matter is: it’s correct, and is being shared for a reason. There is a phrase that has started being spread throughout those in coven, and spilling over to those without: Never doubt The Shawna. Seriously, folks are saying it…granted it’s not multitudes or anything, but still, it’s folks. lol
Anywhoooooo, here’s the part where I give YOU a bit of the stuffs that comes outta me, because y’all need to hear it. YOU can do the same thing. Yup, you can. You too have a gut that gives you inklings and nudges you in the right direction…BUT IT WON’T WORK UNLESS YOU LEARN TO FREAKING LISTEN TO IT AND THEN FOLLOW THROUGH!!!! OK, perhaps the caps were going a tad overboard…but I really don’t think so. You need to hear and heed this message. I am not wrong about this. It can be so incredibly hard to listen….especially because sometimes what your gut is telling you seems absolutely freaking NUTS. You might listen to it and think “NOPE! You’re wrong Mr./Miss Gut. There’s no F-ing WAY that is the course of action I should take. I don’t see how it will work, let alone lead to what I want.” Well, you see, that last bit is the kicker: It may not lead you where you WANT to go, but it sure as hell will lead you where you NEED to go. (Pop Culture alert!) It’s kinda like what Idris (Who is actually the TARDIS) says to The Doctor in the episode of Doctor Who entitled “The Doctor’s Wife”:
So, I guess what I’m saying is this: listen to your inner TARDIS…it will always take you where you need to go.
The Card Drawn: Ostara
Key Word: Fertility
Basic Message: “It is the perfect time for you to start new projects, access new ideas, and give birth to new conditions.”
My take on this card: To me this is the perfect follow-up to all that magnificent grounding we did this past week. We are feeling calm, steady, nurtured, and renewed. It is now time to make use of the amazing groundwork (pun sort of intended, lol) we did, and create something from our patch of now fertile soil.
It’s time to ditch the dark doldrums and LET THERE BE LIGHT! Be a little goofy, release your inner Pixie, and relish in the joy of all the possibilities of life.
Clean up your mundane and spiritual habitat, and surround yourself with beauty. This act of purging that which is cluttering up your vibe will put a bit of a spring in your step, as well as make room for something new and wonderful. Oh yeah, that “new and wonderful” bit? That means it’s time to START something new and wonderful. So jump on all the fab vibes from tonight’s Blue Moon, as well as the energy Lughnasadh/Lammas brings us on Saturday, and work to create something awesome.
Catch Y’all on the flip side. Have a great week!
It’s been a rough month for the Pixie. I’ve been busy writing an Esbat, taking a couple fun witchy classes taught by my HP, trying to get my house in order for guests that will be staying with us in July, planning a trip to Illinois for my Brother-in-law’s ordination as a Lutheran Minister in June, dealing with some not-so-awesome folks that live down the street…the list goes on and on. Some of the stress was from good things, some not, but the thing that effected my peace of mind the most? Mothers Day.
Its impending arrival was the main reason why I haven’t posted to the blog in the last 2 weeks. It was at the forefront of my mind, and I just couldn’t bring myself to focus on it until other things were completed….so I pushed it back. For those of you who don’t already know, I lost my Mother to Pancreatic Cancer last August….so this Mothers Day was a difficult one.
Overall, I think I’ve been dealing with Mom’s death rather well. I have no regrets about our relationship. I said everything I needed to say to her, she knew how I felt about her, I knew how she felt about me, I know I did everything within my power to help her during her illness. But, the fact remains, I miss her beyond measure.
I’ve been doing some thinking about those “Five Stages of Grief” we often hear about: denial, anger, bargaining, depression and acceptance. I’ve personally experienced 3 of the 5; anger, depression and acceptance. It’s said that most people experience all of these, but not everyone. “They” also say these stages can occur in any order, what they don’t say, is that some of them may pop up over and over again…which is something I’ve been discovering.
I mean, it’s not like I’ve never experienced the loss of a loved one before. I lost my Great-Grandmother in 1997, and my Grandfather in 2003 both of them were quite precious to me. Yet, those losses did nothing to prepare me for the profound level of grief I have experienced through the loss of Mom.
When the loss is of someone who has been your anchor, teacher, caregiver, support system for the entirety of your life, I guess it’s only natural that the depression stage emerges more than once. It doesn’t help that I’m already predisposed to depression…
So, how have I been dealing? By soldiering through. As Mothers Day approached, I started to feel her lack of presence…at least physical presence. When the issue with the folks down the street emerged, I wanted to call her, and vent and have her get me to laugh…but I couldn’t. Yes, I can talk to her – duh, I’m a witch who has a pretty strong connection with her ancestors – but, it’s not the same. But, I had shit to do, and as Mom once said (ok, maybe more than once, lol) “When there’s shit to do, it’s got to get done, so just fucking do it!” Yeah…I got my gift of colorful language from her, lol.
So, I got my shit done. I also finally took a few moments to let myself actually feel the sadness on Wednesday. I shed a few tears…and then I just felt…better. I’ve also been looking to a specific line in the Wiccan Rede:
When misfortune is enow, wear the star upon your brow”
This line is basically telling us to trust in The Goddess and your Faith to see you through difficult times. To remind us that everything happens for a reason…whether we like it or not, and whether or not we ever learn what the reason may be. Remarkably, it has been helping me since Mom first called me with her diagnosis.
The support of those around me has also made an immense impact on my ability to deal with it all. Yet another reason I am grateful to have become part of The Coven of Sangha-Sho…Their love & compassion has been a remarkable gift.
So, my journey through grief continues. Some days are good…some not so good. But, as long as I keep moving forward, and don’t allow myself to get stuck in a big ol’ pile of deep, dark, emotional muck, I think I’ll be alright.
