Divination Method: The Goddess Guidance Oracle

Card(s) Drawn: Yemanya

Key Word(s): Golden Opportunity

Basic Message: “Important doors are opening for you right now. Walk through them.”

My Interpretation: Yemanya reminds us that life ebbs and flows like the tides, and because of that timing is of the utmost importance. The appearance of this card indicates that it’s time to pay attention, because opportunities are going to present themselves to you in the coming week.

Yemanya is a protectress, supplier of means, and a granter of wishes – so she won’t be presenting you with anything that you can’t handle. After-all, you’ve been hoping for something, right?? Well: The door’s open, Sugar. Walk Through It!

Some of you may be caught off guard, but don’t let fear of the unknown make you hesitate and miss your chance. You deserve this. Seriously, reach down and connect with your inner Stuart Smalley.

You’re good enough, you’re smart enough, and doggone it people like you!

Magick in the “witchy” sense is the Art & Science of harnessing and manipulating internal and external energies in order to create change. This change may be in ourselves, those around us, our environment, or even our world. How does this relate to art? Well, if you have ever been moved by a painting, a song, a poem, a film, or a photograph you have experienced exactly what I’m talking about.

Films, photographs, paintings, et al. have the ability to change our moods, evoke strong emotions, bring back memories, remind us of our dreams, inspire us…and even change our minds. These pieces are brought about by artists who tap into a source of energy deep within them to craft and create these images, words, and sounds. In doing so, they hope their creations will touch the lives of others…but, the act of creating their works undoubtedly creates change within the artist themselves.

The intent to express oneself can often be compulsory – it MUST be done. This unpredictable drive from within to make ones voice be heard is, at least in my experience, impossible to ignore. While in the midst of creating, we aren’t always sure what it is that needs to be expressed until the work is finished, we take a step back and examine the finished product. I personally feel as if a weight has been lifted when I finish a piece (whether it be a painting, a photograph, a spell, or a ritual). I have been transformed simply by getting it all out…whatever “it” happens to be.

If a piece moves someone other than those who create it? Well, that’s the best kind of magick.

I found a quote from a writer that pretty much sums up all that I’ve been rambling on about:

I believe that magic is art, and that art, whether that be music, writing, sculpture, or any other form, is literally magic. Art is, like magic, the science of manipulating symbols, words or images, to achieve changes in consciousness… Indeed to cast a spell is simply to spell, to manipulate words, to change peoples consciousness, and this is why I believe that an artist or writer is the closest thing in the contemporary world to a shaman.” Alan Moore

I agree with him wholeheartedly. Now, go forth and make some Magick:

CREATE ALL THE THINGS!!!

Divination Method: The Goddess Guidance Oracle

Card(s) Drawn: Oonagh

Key Word(s): Easy Does It

Basic Message: “There is no need to hurry or force things to happen. Everything is occurring in perfect time.”

My Interpretation: Basically, just chill. Don’t try to force something into happening, and don’t wear yourself out to please others. My head is bursting with movie quotes, song lyrics & fables (oh, my!) right now. So seriously, take your pick on how to approach this week:

~  ‘A queen is never late. Everyone else is simply early.’ Queen Clarisse Renaldi (The Princess Diaries)

~  ‘A wizard is never late, Frodo Baggins. Nor is he early; he arrives precisely when he means to.’ Gandalf (The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring)

~ ‘Easy like Sunday morning’ Lionel Richie

~ ‘Slow and steady wins the race.’ Aesop (The Tortoise and the Hare)

~ ‘Don’t let the sound of your own wheels drive you crazy. Lighten up while you still can, don’t even try to understand. Just find a place to make your stand and take it easy.’ The Eagles (Take it Easy)

~ ”Cause there maybe times when you think you lost your mind and the steps you’re takin’ leave you three, four steps behind. But the road you’re walking might be long sometimes, you just keep on steppin’ and you’ll be just fine, yeah. Ease on down, ease on down the road.’  Dorothy & Scarecrow (The Wiz)

Last, but not least: ‘Slow down, you move too fast.’ Simon & Garfunkel (The 59th Street Bridge Song (Feelin’ Groovy))

Yesterday was Election Day here in the U.S., not a Presidential year, but there were LOADS of local elections held nationwide. Gubernatorial races, State House & Senate races, Mayoral races, as well a plethora of other small governmental committee, board and Judicial races. These types of election years don’t usually garner lots of media coverage, but this year? These – normally viewed by the general population as “minor” elections – have brought about some startlingly positive results (In my oh so very liberal opinion).

I woke up this morning to find that several local area GOP incumbents have been ousted by a Democrat. While NYS as a whole is viewed as a “Blue State”, the county in which I reside is generally VERY “Red” (Right-wingers everywhere, y’all!), so this was some pretty exciting news!

This, coupled with the news of key Dem wins elsewhere:

  •  Ralph Northam (D, VA) and Phil Murphy (D, NJ) each won Gubernatorial races against the current GOP Lt. Governors of their respective states.
  • Philadelphia, PA elected liberal Democrat Larry Krasner as their new District Attorney who has promised to end mass incarceration and the death penalty. (Go, Larry!!)
  • The cherry on top: In Virginia, yes Virginia, Danica Roem (D) defeated Del. Robert Marshall (R) in VA’s 13th district becoming the first openly Transgender candidate to the state House of Delegates – she will also be the first Transgender candidate to be elected and seated on ANY state legislature! (You go, girl!)

Now that I’ve rambled on about elections you’re probably bored to tears, but hear’s where this all got goofy with pop-culture wisdom in my little Pixie brain. As I read the news of these remarkable victories across the nation I started to hear George Michael’s “Freedom! ’90” in my head. Confused?? Don’t be! Lemme ‘splain.

This wonderfully deep song by the late and exquisitely talented crooner is about him reclaiming his identity and reveling in the joy that he felt in finding and being his true self. In my mind, that is what’s happening with these elections. We are reclaiming our national identity as one of diversity, one that helps its citizenry, one that looks out for the health of future generations and our planet.

Freedom! is the battle cry of the Democrat, the Liberal, as well as the Republican who is sick of having their party’s ideals distorted and eclipsed by an overwhelmingly self-serving demagogue.

I think there’s something you should know
I think it’s time I stopped the show
There’s something deep inside of me
There’s someone I forgot to be”

Life is about “Give and take”, you cannot keep taking from We the People and expect we won’t fight back. Our country was built on the ideas of lifting people up to be able to fulfill their dreams, not tax them into obscurity and use them as virtual slave labor to help the rich get richer. So, let’s keep this up people. The utterly important Congressional Mid-Term elections are next year. It’s time to stop our nation’s descent into the past. Keep fighting the good fight, and we have a real chance at moving ahead to a brighter future.

Freedom!
Freedom! (oh freedom)
Freedom! (my freedom)
You’ve gotta give for what you take
Freedom! (hold on to my freedom)
Freedom!
Freedom! (my freedom)
You’ve gotta give for what you take”

So, sit back, relax, and listen to the awesomeness that was the lovely George Michael.

Do NOT, however, sit on your laurels…continue to resist.

Today is November 1st. Many people are either at work, running errands, or checking off things on a very long To-Do list – but not me. After a busy day at work and a very late night at our coven’s Samhain ritual, I am taking a day to do a whole lot of NOTHING!

A long time ago, I read something Thich Nhat Hanh said:

We humans have lost the wisdom of genuinely resting and relaxing. We worry too much. We don’t allow our bodies to heal, and we don’t allow our minds and hearts to heal.”

Thich Nhat Hanh

I didn’t always understand what he meant. I mean, resting and relaxing are often equated with laziness – and who the hell wants to be thought of as lazy, right?? Well, I no longer give a shit about that. lol I know that I do what I can do on any given day. I also know that there are days…far more than there should be, when I push myself past the limits that my mind, body, and/or spirit have imposed on me. When I exceed those limits for too long, I pay the consequences with sore muscles, achy joints, headaches, fatigue, and even illness.

People do not run on batteries that last as long as the ones represented by a  long-eared drumming mascot are purported to. If we live life as though we do, we will burn out fast. We need to live as though we run on rechargeable batteries…because, essentially, we do. We need to make sure we carve out time for physical, mental, and emotional respites in order to refill our energetic coffers. This can be done through meditation, sleeping in, an at-home “spa day”, a movie night with close friends  – or you can do what I’m doing today, sit on the couch in your PJs and binge watch Stranger Things.

Alrighty folks, I’ve used up all my allotted brainy thinks for the day. lol Heading back to my binge fest! 😉

Divination Method: The Secret Language of Animals Oracle Cards

Card(s) Drawn: Koala

Key Word(s): Calm, Perspective, Imagination, Ease

Affirmation:

“I breathe deep with a warm smile and relax into the arms of the great Tree of Life.

I feel peace, calm and new possibility.

I bring this wherever I go.”

My Interpretation:

Koala’s appearance for the coming week is quite fitting on a couple of levels. First of all, Koala’s message is one of an opportunity – and responsibility – to become a source of peace and positivity, both for ourselves and those we come in contact with. Actions speak louder than words, contrary to what those engaged in the current storm of today’s political climate seem to think. Following Koala’s example of watching things from above and surveying the situation with a serene demeanor  helps us to gain perspective. Acting calmly, rather than reacting in haste is the better course to take. Easier said than done, I know, but living and embodying your values instead of pushing them in other people’s faces makes a much deeper impression. So, in the coming week, relax. Place yourself into a low gear and become an observer, rather than shoving yourself into the thick of it.

What is this other side of Koala that is befitting this particular moment in time? Well, let me tell ya! According to Aboriginal legends, Koalas were the first creatures on the earth, formed from the earthen clay itself. It is said that they shared the ancient wisdom of the earth with the early peoples of Australia. Legend also states that in order to survive a prolonged drought, these ancient people transformed into Koalas in order to ascend the trees to ingest the moisture filled eucalyptus leaves. While in the heights of the trees they were able to gain a a broader perspective and understanding of the vastness of the world below. They became known as the Memory Keepers, keeping watch from the treetops in order to welcome the spirits of the ancestors upon their return.

This coming week includes Samhain, a time at which the veil between worlds is at its thinnest. The appearance of our cuddly looking marsupial friend assures us that our ancestors are coming, and encourages us to listen to their wisdom. Take some time to sit in quiet reflection and honor and remember the ancestors. They may have something interesting to tell you. 😉

It has been a very long time since I’ve posted. I’d like to say that it’s because I’ve been so fabulously busy that I just couldn’t spare a moment to do so…but, that wouldn’t be true. There were Winters plagued with seasonal depression, the Presidential campaigns/election/current term (UGHHHH!!!), as well as some minor illnesses, but it wasn’t all bad.

In the aftermath of Bowie’s death I discovered – with the help of my 2 friends who make up our trio we call the “Bowie Girls” – that I have a love of painting. Much of my time has been devoted to expressing myself in this way, along with my photography. That, coupled with my family, work, and coven duties left me a little tapped out…I just didn’t have any oomph left for writing. (I also have a new grandson! So now there’s TWO grand-kids to amuse me! lol).

In any case, I’m being pulled back into this Pixilated world of mine. I’m not really sure what I’ll be musing about, but there’s sure to be a resurgence of Foresight Friday and Wednesday Wisdom. Hopefully, you’re not too peeved at me for my absence, I promise I’ll make it up to you.

I’ll be back Friday with some divination for y’all, in the meantime I’ll leave you with a quote to chew on.

Even your smallest action can change the world for the better.
In a gentle way, you can shake the world. – Mahatma Gandhi

Feel free to comment with any small actions you think we can make to shake things up for the better.

BowieLifeLessons

6 – Be a Team Player

Now, this isn’t exactly meant in the whole “Corporate Machine” sense of the phrase, because I really and truly do despise most everything “The Establishment” tries to shove down our throats as “How to be a Productive Member of Society”. What I mean is, as brilliant as he was in his own right, he understood that being able to work effectively with others made it possible to create some incredible things. Throughout his career he had successful collaborations with many other brilliant artists, and I don’t ever recall reading anything where such-n-such musician/director/actor made any remarks that would peg Bowie as difficult to work with in any way.

The list is pretty impressive too: John Lennon (Fame), Queen (Under Pressure), Roxy Music’s Brian Eno (Heroes), Mick Jagger (Dancing in the Streets), Iggy Pop (Sister Midnight), Trent Reznor (I’m Afraid of Americans), Lou Reed (Transformer album), Luther Vandross (Young Americans), Bing Crosby (Peace on Earth/Little Drummer Boy), Tina Turner (Tonight), Nile Rodgers (Let’s Dance)…the list, much like the beat, goes on…and this is JUST the list of musical collaborations. Add his acting credits to this and the number of artists he worked with is truly astounding.

Anyway, the point is, his very non-diva work ethic was something I took note of as a young Pixie.

5 – Always Be Yourself…Even if You’re Someone Different Every Day

David Bowie came on the scene in his own unique way. As time passed, he was constantly changing up his look, experimenting with new and different things, exploring different aspects of himself, bending gender perceptions, and generally just blowing people’s minds. He wasn’t afraid to share his “oddity” with the world, and while many may not have been sure what the hell they were looking at at times, many more saw a part of themselves in him. A part that they may have felt was “too weird” or “too different” for people to understand or love. Yet, here was Bowie, flaunting his very eclectic and ever-morphing self before the world in a very unapologetic manner and he was indeed loved for it. He was loved by the masses that felt like the misunderstood outsider…so, y’know every teenager that at the time, or any time since, that didn’t follow the crowd or fit into the mainstream. His career continued on and on and he continued to be loved, successful, profound, respected, revered, and relevant. He made it ok, even COOL to be different and quirky. Something this rather unique Pixie found reassuring. I didn’t always feel awesome about being different, but Bowie and the unique individuals he inspired (Duran Duran, Boy George, Depeche Mode, Annie Lennox, Madonna, The Cure, Nine Inch Nails, etc…) always managed to make me feel better in my own skin and slowly learn to embrace my fabulously freakish self.

4 – You’re Never Too Cool to Work with Muppets

There’s really nothing else to be said about this, because I think it speaks for itself. 😉

3 – Lovers Never Lose, Gentleness Clears Your Soul, and Fear’s Just in Your Head

The lyrics say it all…and more…

2 – Something Beautiful Can Come from a Tragic Story

Of the multitudes of songs, quotes, and movie roles that he gave us throughout the decades of my life (and the few years before my life began) there is one song that struck me harder and deeper than any other. Space Oddity is very simple in its composition, tragic in its story, and beautiful in its entirety. It starts out hopeful and thrilling as our hero Major Tom blasts off into space. The world is excited and proud and wants to know all there is to know about our brave explorer. We experience his awe as he describes the spectacular vastness that he is witnessing…and then, everything goes wrong. Chances are, I’m not telling you anything you don’t already know…because who doesn’t know this song??? Anyway, I cannot accurately describe the profound impact this song has had on me. It reaches into my soul and touches something that fills me with love, wonder, sadness…and somehow…joy…all at the same time.

1 – Live Your Life Robustly and on YOUR Terms…Right to the End

This remarkable inspirational entity had so much to say, that he never stopped creating and sharing parts of himself with us. He was ill, and knew his time was short, yet he kept creating and lived his life to the fullest every day with very few knowing that anything was wrong. He was a very busy bee in his last years. He spearheaded and wrote the score for the off Broadway production of Lazarus; a musical based on the sci-fi classic “The Man Who Fell to Earth” in which he played the lead role in 1976. At the same time he was in studio laying down the tracks to his final album Blackstar, as well as filming the videos for the first two singles “Blackstar” and “Lazarus”.

Both of his final projects are very real representations of a man coming to terms with his mortality. For a rock star he was an extraordinarily private man, yet in these works he shares with us the most intimate parts of himself. The album is poignant, brilliant, and exceedingly beautiful…I’ve no doubt that his production of Lazarus is the same (judging by the ticket sales throughout its run, I think I’m correct in my assumption).

I wish I could thank him for these generous gifts he’s bestowed upon us…and it may sound funny to you…or maybe it won’t…I just had a thought to the tune of Space Oddity:

“Tell Bowie we love him very much” echoed by David’s own ethereal voice saying “He knows”…

Implement New Ideas...with a Little Help #ForesightFriday #Divination #Pagan

Divination Method: The Goddess Guidance Oracle

Card(s) Drawn: Ostara, Green Tara

Implement New Ideas...with a Little Help #ForesightFriday #Divination

Key Word(s): Fertility (Ostara), Start Delegating (Green Tara)

Basic Message:

Ostara – “It is the perfect time to start new projects, access new ideas, and give birth to new conditions.”

Green Tara – “Ask others (including me) to help you, instead of trying to do everything yourself.”

My Interpretation:

This coming week includes both the Winter Solstice (Yule) and Christmas, and it seems to me that this reading falls very much in line with the returning of the Light, and the Birth of the Son/Sun (depending on your spiritual path).

The days will be getting longer again in the coming days, and with the return of the Light, we shall also have the return of IDEAS!

Make note of all the wonderous thoughts and plans that occur to you this week…some may be able to be set into motion now, while others may have to wait their turn. In either case, be sure to nurture them so that they may grow.

Now, here’s where Green Tara comes in. Don’t try to do everything yourself. I know, I know, I’m not the best example when it comes to this bit of advice, but I am getting better. 😉 ANYWAY, ask for the help you need in order to make these new plans and ideas come to fruition…or even help in prioritizing which can be put off, and which should be dealt with with a bit more immediacy. Too many cooks may spoil the pot…but a farmer cannot till his fields on his own. Not very effectively anyway.

So go on, get to idea brewing and plan making…just don’t forget to do it with a little help from your friends.

Keep the Faith #ForesightFriday #Divination #Pagan

Divination Method: The Secret Language of Animals Oracle Cards

Card(s) Drawn: Salmon

Keep the Faith #ForesightFriday #Divination #Pagan

Key Word(s): Faith, Determination, Independence, Change

Affirmation:

“As the hero of my own life story, I answer the quiet call of my spirit.

Change is my friend. Clarity is my power.

My life is a great adventure, always guiding me home.”

My Interpretation: What do you think of when you think of Salmon (besides the fact that you may, or may not find them delicious, lol)? I’m guessing you think of a long battle to swim upstream in order to fulfill its life’s purpose. But, what you may not think of is the sheer amount of determination it takes to do so. Salmon appears today to show us that if we focus on our goals, and refuse to give up, we can fulfill our life’s purpose. We must have faith that we will reach that place that we are meant to reach. That faith can be in our methods, ourselves, our deities, the Universe, or any combination thereof…but faith is necessary.

It is time to embrace and accept your struggles in order to overcome them and to discover the opportunities that lie beyond them. Follow your instincts, and follow your own path…everyone else may be going a different direction, but that is THEIR journey. Don’t fall into the “follow the herd” mentality, trust in yourself and look for the holes in the crowd that will let you slip past them and on to where you need to be.

It sounds daunting, and counter-intuitive to “Go against the flow”, but here’s what you may not know. Salmon does not exactly spend its whole journey fighting the current…it is actually following a series of reverse undercurrents that help it on its way home. So, like Salmon, you too must seek out those people and opportunities that can help push you in the right direction. Trust yourself enough to know that you will recognize these as they occur.

Don’t dwell on the past, nor on the difficulties of the present….and do not fear what lies ahead.

The best way I can see to convey this message is through some lyrics from Billy Joel:

“You can get just so much from a good thing. You can linger too long in your dreams.  Say goodbye to the Oldies but goodies. ‘Cause the good ole days weren’t always good, and tomorrow ain’t as bad as it seems.”

It might not be a bad idea to revisit Dory’s “Just keep swimming” philosophy either. 😉

So, that’s it. Just Keep Swimming, and Keep the Faith….and listen to Billy Joel. LOL
